Roy Poole opened Austin Recording Company on the second floor of the Littlefield Building at 6th and Congress in the early ‘50s, the only recording studio in town was the Radio House on the University of Texas campus.
On 03/04/80 Martin took the position of Chief Engineer (replacing Bob Behem) at Austin Custom Records. Later New Generations Productions staff also located at the Austin Custom Records offices.05/10/80 Met with Pooles about operating NGP out of ACR

03/06/80 Martin met Bob Behem ACR's previous engineer to learn about ACR's studio. Unfortunately Bob owned the Tascam Model 10 and some other equipment, leaving some sparce older equipment in the studio.

Austin Custom Records where Martin worked as Chief Engineer while still working for the Texas DHS. Most often that state job happened during the day and in the evening and weekends Martin would complete the recording work. That usually fit with the musicians schedules as well.

At Austin Custom Records, Martin began regular weekly recordings for a Venezuelan radio program sponsored by Optica Selecta.

Martin ended up brining in his own Highland Sound Company as Austin Custom Records lacked adaquate playback equipment. HSC equipment included the Tecnichics amp, the JBL L40 Monitors and a Teac Model 2 mixer.

Martin responded to this ad when he first came across it in 1978 in El Paso. He had purchased the equipment previously, however wanted to connect with the referral service. On 02/2/780, Len Clark contacted Martin and indicated he had obtained my information when he bought Land Voice. A new company was formed that included Len Clark, Cheryl & Martin, Dennis Rowland, Harvey Campi, Kansas Pride and Peter Butcher. The new company was named New Generation Productions, Inc. March 3, 1980 Phantom van at Austin's Lake Travis. This picture shows some of Phantom's first on-location music video work in 1980. The video camera can be seen sitting on the left bench. It was tethered to the VHS deck (bottom right). The blue cable was the 8 channel 100 foot Whirlwind snake. The decks were the 4 track Teac A-3340 and the Teac A-3000 2 track mastering deck. Also included in the picture is the microphone briefcase, TV monitor, accessory trays, 4 channel dbx, Marantz 5420 cassette deck, Technics amp and JBL speakers.

 One of the Board members for NGP was Harvey Campi, Ray  Campi's brother of Rockibilly. We produced and released the single "Little Young Girl."
07/11/80 NGP board meeting in Horseshoe Bay at Harvey Campi's home. Harvey (Rockabilliy artist Ray Campi's brother) provided some funding for New Generations Productions and a single record "Little Young Girl" was was also released on the NGP label.

03/31/80 Began setting up New Generation Productions building. These are the building plans. Capitol Metro agreed to build out out custom studio and offices as part of the lease. Martin designed and provided acoustical resources to Metro.

 05/15/80 Martin working with Bruce Scafe at TxDHS Media services editing. Martin accepted a training position in Austin beginning in November 1978. Ever since attending the State's 4 week Austin orientation in 1969, Martin had planned to join the music scene in Austin. His position enabled him to work with the DHS Media Services Division. Their video director was Bruce Scafe who produced the first Austin City Limits segments - view Bruce's early ACL clip. Martin hosted a segment of the TxDHR video news magazines Telejournal. Vi

Initially NGP was also working with the band Shammy consisting of James Mikulenka, Larry & Wayne Gathright (Music Lane Recording), The group was originally from Victoria and owned a recording studio that was built into a mobile home. The MET Center allowed the band to park the trailer behind Building 1 and Martin engineered some of the groups sessions.

 When NGP closed their offices, Riverside Sound eventually became the new owner.
The studio was completed by Bill Johnson and Herschel Cunningham.
One of Riverside Sound's first projects was recording tracks for Stevie Ray Vaughan's Texas Flood, for which the studio won gold records. read more... and more

10/03/80 Cheryl and Martin formed Music, Etc with Peter & Tina Butcher after NGP collapsed following Lynn Clark's misuse of funding. The goal was to continue utilizing Peter's global resources to place US music in foreign territories.

Martin & Peter also joined forces to produce and promote music through Music, Etc., and Rich Records.
While continuing Phantom Productions, Martin formed a new company with Peter Butcher. Peter and Martin had met while working on NGP projects. Using Peter's European resources, Music, Etc. worked to secure new music from recording studios in the US and promote them to international publishers and record companies. Peter and martin also enjoyed success during this time charting Leslie Gore's "It's My Party and I'll Cry if I Want To " on the US Billboard charts. See more

11/13/80 Cherry had developed a slight limp and referred to the Austin Neurological Clinic. The MRI diagnosed Cheryl with a brain tumor in the Pons area.
The pons area of the brain sets your body's level of alertness when you wake up. It manages pain signals. Your pons relays and regulates the signals that give you the sensation of pain from anywhere in your body below your neck. It works with other brain structures.

Glen Campbell's parents lived near them. Cheryl's uncle would go fishing with Glen's dad. He would often wear clothes Glen gave him. He wondered when Glen would pass him the Rhinestone Cowboy outfit.

12/01/80 Kelly had 13 pups beginning 5:30pm in vet's office. Delivered until 1:30 am next day. Vet agreed to keep Kelly & pups while Martin took care of Cheryl in hospital.
