Sue Bradford Anthony

          

I was very sad to learn that Sue passed away June 8, 2014 In the early 1960's, Sue and I hung out together, had long talks and listened to music in the small building behind her parent’s home. Her mom and dad were good folks. Years earlier her dad worked driving large mule teams from the mines in south Brewster County to Marathon. He had interesting stories. Sue accompanied me driving around west Texas working for my Dad in my Mom's beige Ford Falcon. We were returning from Marathon in the rain, when we slid sideways into the left side ditch. Just before we came to a stop, dirt piled up on the wheels and we rolled over in slow  motion. Neither of us were injured. As it seems I always do, I had a crush on Sue. I decided to surprise her with the new, all the rage, Princess telephone for her birthday. Her cousin Phyllis (Carol) helped me plan the surprise. The afternoon of the party, Sue called me. Sue asked if it was okay with me for her boyfriend from Fort Stockton to attend her birthday party that evening. We were close friends, and yet I did not know  she had a boyfriend. I wasn’t about to say no. Phyllis (Carol) and I became closer as a result and went through the rest of high school and college together later marrying in our Junior year at Sul Ross.

Trudys Little Texas closing • We've had many meals and great times at Trudy's! Martin began going to Trudy's shortly after it opened near UT in the late 1907's (later burned and never reopened). We had a Trudy's for a brief time at the Oak Hill "Y" and took Martin's parents there the night before our wedding. Then in the mid 1980's we began going every Friday evening after work to Brody Lane. Met and became friends with Nancy the manager, who invited us to a special grand opening breakfast buffet at the new Little Texas Lane Trudys. We always tried to get the more private table 212. Alejandro was our favorite bus boy outworked for Trudys a long time. Over time, after we built our home toward Bastrop, the traffic became worse and worse. We'd often get to go if we were in Austin. Trudy's built the Dripping Springs restaurant which did not do well. Trudy's went bankrupt, sold to a South Carolina group. Nancy left. Menu changed and we only returned occasionally for the Queso, Quesadillas and Flautus. Now just the Burnet Trudy's location is left. We'll go there on Monday May 13th, but not a location we will frequent. Sad change, but good memories.

"Beautiful! My parents built that office building in the '50's for their printing business. It was expanded over the years as they distributed the El Paso, Odessa & San Angelo newspapers to the area. Later it became a magazine and book distribution center and evolved into a Hallmark Card and book store. The Merrihews took over the operation and ended up moving the store's business and office supplies to downtown. Chris and I acquired the building when my Dad passed in 1987. After several renters passed through, the building was sold. My folks would be incredibly proud of the building's current use and my Mom would be over the moon to see such a great mural on the side.  SAJR visited Texas February 18 to 24 with stops in Lockhart, San Antonio (twice), Bastrop and Austin. Amy and Gary gave them a bargain stay in their new B&B

                                                    

(From top) Abbey bringing Anthony's birthday cake on 02/20/24. On 02/21/24 Chris and Martin dropped off mail-in vote registrations at the Bastrop County Clerk then went by Amy and Gary's new B&B. Chris arranged for Gary to give Anthony a special deal for three nights. Chris got help from Anthony and Rowan with at the stable. Martin gave a brief studio/museum tour. We went by Amy and Gary's to thank them. Chris cooked a chicken casserole for supper at our home.  We celebrated Anthony's birthday early with a cake from Abbie on February 21st at our home. Breakfast at Maxine's on the 22nd. Sophie waiting at home for us. On Thursday evening, we all went to see Tracie Lynn perform and ate at the Broken Spoke. We all ate at Bastrop's Store House restaurant recommended by Gary. Chris gave Anthony an early birthday card & present on the evening of the 23rd after they returned from San Antonio. 02/17/24 - Julie posted on nextdoor.com - About 4:30 today we were rear ended by a speeding pickup on Hwy 71 near Hwy 21 (to San Marcos). He sped away towards Bastrop city but I got his LIC plate number and description of the vehicle. I called the police and they said he had already been caught and he was driving a stolen vehicle. Apparently he “spun out” on the other side of Bastrop, hurt but ok. Also he hit 2 other cars after me. I’ve pressed charges! This was scary. Fortunately we only have some body damage to the car and no personal injuries. Our guardian angels protected us. Vehicle Color: Dark maybe grey, Type: Pickup

Bastrop SO damage from stopping stolen pickup that damaged 3 cars before being stopped at Hwy 71 and McAllister Rd.
