John "Jack" O'Donnell, 64, of Marfa, died Sunday, Sept. 28, in an Odessa hospital.
Rosary was held Thursday, Oct. 2, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass was held Friday, Oct. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marfa. Burial followed at Marfa Cemetery with U.S. Border Patrol Honor Guard. Memorial Funeral Home in Marfa was in charge of arrangements.
Born in El Paso on Nov. 21, 1938, Mr. O'Donnell graduated from Fabens High School and Sul Ross State University with a degree in criminal justice. He was a deputy sheriff for El Paso County, highway patrolman for the Department of Public Safety and agent for the U.S. Border Patrol. The family moved to Marfa in 1971. He retired in 1995 following 24 years of service with USBP. He served in the Army and was a Catholic.Survivors include his wife, Elaine O'Donnell of Marfa; two daughters, Tammy Nave of Marfa and Patricia O'Donnell of Florida; one son, Shane Nave of Austin; three brothers, Pat O'Donnell of El Paso, Mike O'Donnell of Van Horn and Tim O'Donnell of Alamogordo, N.M.; and seven grandchildren, Ashley Hernandez, Brianna and Kiarra Petterson, Darrius and Isaiah Evans, Daycia O'Donnell and Nikki Nave.
Pallbearers were Pat, Mike and Tim O'Donnell, Shane Nave, Allen O'Donnell and Gary DeCocq.
